At 8: 01 am (IST), Asian markets were trading mixed. China's Shanghai Composite was flat at 3,114.52.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 0.42% or 89.22 points at 21,086.66.
Japan's Nikkei was up 0.62% or 63.09 points at 10,205.14.
Singapore's Straits Times was flat at 2,803.15.
South Korea's Seoul Composite was flat at 1,644.75.
Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted gained 0.52% or 40.22 points at 7,793.85.

Sat, Dec 19, 2009 Wall Street ends higher; tech stocks push Nasdaq up 1.5%

The US markets ended with moderate gains on Friday. The Nasdaq, which consists mostly of technology stocks, rallied post better quarterly performance from Oracle and Research in Motion (RIM). The gains in Dow and S&P got curbed by rise in the dollar index.

Technology stocks witnessed buying interest post the news. Oracle jumped 6.4% to USD 24.34; its Q2FY10 net profit went up 12.31% to USD 1.46 billion from USD 1.3 billion in the same quarter of previous year. Its sales increased to USD 5.9 billion from USD 5.6 billion YoY).

RIM's Q3 net income increased 58.57% to USD 628.4 million as against USD 396.3 million in the same period of previous year. It has reported revenues of USD 3.92 billion for the quarter ended November 28 versus USD 2.78 billion (YoY). The stock gained 10%.
